Postdoctoral Research Associate
Dr. Guanyuan Shuai is a postdoc under the supervision of Dr. Alyssa Whitcraft and Dr. Ritvik Sahajpal, providing research support for NASA Harvest projects, particularly in support of the Harvest Sustainable and Regenerative Agriculture (SARA) Initiative. His research interests include:
Dr. Guanyuan Shuai has been a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Department of Geographical Sciences at University of Maryland since September 2022. He completed his PhD in Geological Sciences at Michigan State University in summer 2022. The overarching goal of his PhD research is to develop and enable solutions to improve the environmental and economic returns of U.S. agricultural systems given the knowledge of spatial and temporal variability of maize and soybean yields related to landscape characteristics and management.
His studies are broadly related to using Earth observation data and crop simulation models to understand the impacts of different management practices on crop production, soil health, and other environmental domains. Dr. Shuai specializes in image analysis techniques using machine learning, deep learning algorithms, and crop modeling techniques. His research has been funded by the Harvest SARA Initiative, and he has published scientific papers in remote sensing and agronomy journals.
