Harvest Science Lead meets with Vietnam National Space Center Director
Over the week of March 5-9, Dr. Christopher Justice, NASA Harvest Scientific Lead, met with Pham Anh Tuan, the Director of the Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC), to discuss VNSC partnership with Harvest and GEOGLAM. Harvest can help Vietnam's space agency improve their satellite data collection for agriculture and food security by connecting with important partners and tools such as GEOGLAM's crop monitor.
On March 6, Dr. Justice presented an overview on GEOGLAM and Harvest at the CEOS/VNSC workshop, "Introduction of Satellite Data Sharing System - Vietnam Data Cube", emphasizing its use for the applications of the Vietnam Data Cube. The Vietnam Data Cube provides users with free tools and a satellite image database that support land cover change status analysis, and gathers satellite data from Landsat, Sentinel and ALOS for the region, used to monitor forests, rice and water. It improves user capacity to use Earth observation satellite data, supporting the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. The workshop was attended by local representatives from the Vietnam Ministries of Natural Resources and Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Science and Technology, as well as the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the Mekong River Commission and international representatives from academia and space agencies in Australia, Japan, and the EU.
Later that week, Ms. Christina Jade Justice of Harvest and GEOGLAM provided training for the Vietnam National Crop Monitor at VNSC in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. This training was organized in partnership with VNSC and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Center for Informatics and Statistics (MARD CIS).
